Biotechnology company Biotech Araclon Aragon has been invited to participate in BioChicago 2010, the largest biotechnology fair in the world, to present the results of his research on Alzheimer’s disease, along with two of the most prestigious Spanish biotech companies. In particular, Araclon Biotech, owned by Viamed Health Group, has staged a conference to present their progress in Alzheimer research in a monographic session on the disease within the Congress, held 3 to 6 May in Chicago with the assistance of more than 14,000 professionals, the company said in a statement.

The director general of Araclon Biotech, Pilar de la Huerta, said the company has set out its progress “made special emphasis on the dramatic and promising results we obtained in our pilot study with quantification kit of beta amyloid in blood (40 Abtest and 42) as a possible tool to diagnose the disease in its early stages. In addition, we have presented the results we obtained with immunotherapy (vaccine). ”

Regarding the kit, De la Huerta stressed “hospitality and interest indisputable that it has obtained the attendees the chance to have a tool to help in diagnosing the disease in its early stages.

“The hearing is now pending that the outstanding results we obtained in our pilot study are replicated in the current study we conducted in collaboration with leaders in clinical research on the most important disease in Europe and are a total of fourteen European institutions are currently collaborating on studies of the kit, “he recalled.

STUDY

The study is carried throughout the biennium 2010-2011 with the participation of 400 people. The aim is to ensure that individuals with cognitive impairment and with a high initial level of beta amyloid in blood are the group with the highest rate of conversion to Alzheimer’s over the next two years.

Thus, the company would confirm that the measurement and quantification of this biomarker is a key variable in order to make an early diagnosis of the disease. In addition, the kit would ABtest validated as a suitable tool for such measurements, having a detection limit low enough to match its ability to measure beta amyloid in whole blood (Pool beta amyloid).

With regard to the vaccine, which is currently developing toxicological and enter clinical trials by year-end, Araclon BioChicago Biotech stated in 2010 the results achieved over the last few months on a proof of concept in Beagle dogs.

In the aforementioned animal model has watched the administration of the vaccine not only lowers levels of beta peptides ameloide 40 and 42 in blood-a fact which had already demonstrated in other experiments, but decreases were observed over 50 percent of the soluble peptides in the brain. “This is a proof that the vaccine carries the desired action in the brain, without any adverse effect,” Pilar de la Huerta hue.

The CEO of Biotech Araclon said that those results position the Aragonese biotechnology “as one of the most promising research on Alzheimer’s, and their results are relevant and encouraging initial steps to achieve disease prevention and control.”

On the occasion of the Seventh Biennial Conference Barcelona, Pittsburgh, under the slogan, ‘Dementia today’ will be held in the Auditorium of Barcelona AXA 12 to May 14, Araclon Biotech has organized a monographic session to be held on the afternoon of May 11 at the ACE Foundation.

The aim of the meeting is to discuss its results with the detection kit of beta amyloid in blood and on the extensive European studies currently being developed in order to obtain sufficient statistical information to validate the kit as a tool in the diagnosis of disease in its early stages.
